Helen Bywater
Helen Bywater brings together the best of two worlds: 15 years at McKinsey & Company, followed by many years working hands-on inside small and medium-sized businesses.
Her early career at McKinsey & Company spanned senior executive support, program coordination, and assisting recruitment activities across both Australia and global teams.
Working closely with Directors and transformational facilitators, Helen supported complex programs, people initiatives, and high-stakes recruiting — experiences that built a deep foundation in operational rigour, human dynamics, and structured ways of working.
It was here she developed a lasting belief that sustainable success doesn’t come from working harder, but from building high-quality, repeatable systems.
After McKinsey, Helen moved into the SME world, where she experienced first-hand the reality of growing businesses: limited resources, overloaded owners, tribal knowledge, and systems living in people’s heads. This is where her passion for practical systemisation was fully formed — helping owners create clarity, consistency, and breathing room in their day-to-day operations.
Today, Helen is the founder of Systems Next Gen and a Certified SYSTEMologist, helping business owners remove themselves as the bottleneck and build businesses that can scale, step back, or eventually be sold — without everything relying on them.
She specialises in turning complex, chaotic operations into clear, system-dependent businesses through calm, structured, and highly practical guidance. Helen works closely with owners and their internal Systems Champions to ensure systems are not just documented, but adopted and sustained.
